The world we live in today is not all about what you know but it is about WHO you know. Networking and building relationships is one of the most (arguably the most) important thing. It can be the determining factor for you to get the dream job you want or the project that will put you on the map. But, how does one network themselves? 85% of jobs are filled through networking. So, how do you get in those conversations? How can someone be at the forefront of the decision makers mind? Those are all really good questions and for many, it can be really scary. What if they talk to the wrong person, or they are spending their time with the wrong crowd?
Fortunately you are not alone, 1 in 4 people don’t network at all. We have collaborated with a wide variety of sources to come up with 7 easy steps to be better at Networking. Let's dive right in!
1. Be a good listener.
At the top of our list is to be a good listener. There’s no doubt about it. Success depends on how well you can listen and learn. Be engaged in the conversation. If you are not a good listener, then start now!
2. Get in the conversation.

Where every you are, what ever you are doing. Always get a follow up. These things take time, you need to take the time to make a connection. Key thing: Don’t ask everyone that you meet for a follow up. Make sure there is potential with the other individual. Follow them on Facebook, like their last couple of pictures on Instagram or Share their last tweet. I wouldn’t do all of them because that is a little overwhelming but get in the conversation.
3. Be Authentic.
Pretty much the most important thing…EVER! BE YOU! You are great! Don’t try to be someone else, people will see threw it so fast. Be honest. If you didn’t go to Harvard or get a perfect ACT score in High School, don’t say you did. Tbh, who cares! Haha. You’re style will show.

Bonus!
Truly care about the people you talk to. We live in a world that is plagued with negativitiy and hurt. We need to change that. When you meet someone, do something special. You can brighten their day and cheer them up. There is so many things that you can do in this world that can make a difference. Make someone happy. That’s my invitation. Talk to someone new. Make them happy. Even if it is a simple smile or a funny joke you heard. Be You. Be Real. Be Curious.
